Checkups

iStock_000032903408_LargeIt is recommended that an individual get a dental checkup every six months – even children. Regular checkups allow the dentist to keep track of any changes and prevent small problems from becoming larger ones later. Even baby teeth (that will fall out later) need to be looked at to ensure that the permanent teeth will grow in without complications.

Cleanings

Brushing and flossing daily keep your teeth clean between visits and will go a long way towards keeping your teeth and gums healthy. During your preventive dental visit we will clean, examine and X-ray your teeth in order to catch and prevent gum and tooth decay from causing serious damage.

Fluoride and Sealants

iStock_000009116452_DoubleDo your children like candy? Tooth decay can present a problem for children as well as adults. You can prevent significant tooth decay between exams by having a sealant applied. This sealant is a thin film painted over the grooves in your tooth to protect and extend the life of your tooth. It can last up to 10 years. Over time, the roots of older teeth over time become exposed, making them susceptible to tooth decay. Effectively fight against the decay and decline of your teeth with fluoride.

Crowns and Bridges

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is placed over the tooth to restore size and appearance. When there is a gap between teeth creating a missing tooth, a dental bridge, made up of two or more crowns, can be used to replace the missing tooth.

Composites/Inlays/Onlays

Dental inlays and onlays are used when old fillings need to be removed or replaced. A dental inlay is similar to a filling and fits inside the cusp tips (top edges) of the tooth. A dental onlay is more extensive and extends over the cusps of the treated tooth.

Teeth Whitening

Have your teeth yellowed over time? As we age, the outer layer of enamel (thin protective covering) on our teeth is worn away, revealing the darker tissue underneath (nerves and blood vessels). Ask us if you are a suitable candidate for whitening!

Veneers and Lumineers

When your teeth are chipped, damaged or stained, covering them may be the best treatment. With both Veneeers and Lumineers, a thin but durable layer of porcelain is placed over the tooth surface. This requires minimal preparation.

Lumineers are ultra-thin (approximately 0.2 mm) and highly translucent, to replicate the natural appearance of enamel. Traditional veneers may be thicker, requiring the grinding down of your tooth structure.

Fillings

If a cavity is found, we will numb the area with a local anesthetic, remove the tooth decay and fill the tooth with one of several dental filling materials. Today, teeth can be filled with gold, porcelain, silver amalgam or a tooth colored composite.

Scaling & Root Planing

Scaling and root planing is the most common form of treatment for periodontal (gum) disease. Scaling is the removal of calculus (commonly called tartar) and plaque that attach to the tooth surfaces. The process especially targets the area below the gum line, along the root. Root planing is a process that smooths the tooth’s surface, making it harder for plaque to stick. For this reason, the root surface is made smooth in a process called root planing. Root planing removes any remaining calculus and smooths irregular areas of the root surface.
